Condoms are primarily used for safe sex – and the ‘being safe’ part applies to two aspects of the sexual act. First, condoms are used for protection against sexually transmitted diseases. Second, they act as a physical barrier to keep the ejaculated semen from entering the body of a woman so that pregnancy can be prevented. Rubber condoms were first introduced way back in 1855. Latex condoms followed in the 1920’s and have been used for several decades since then. It was only in 1994 that polyurethane condoms were introduced. This type of condom can be used with oil-based and water-based lubricants. Today, condoms come in a variety of textures, colors, sizes and types depending on the material that they are made of.
Now, there are several things that you need to know about when choosing which condoms to buy. First, check on the size of the condom. The size is particularly important for men who are endowed with large or long penises because using a condom which is a size smaller might cause it to break. Second, you can take your pick from condoms which have smooth, thin textures that almost feel like there is no barrier between the two of you during intercourse. Or, you can opt for the extra sensation brought about by textured or ribbed condoms. Third, choose from a variety of condoms which have different colors – ranging from vivid to the glow-in-the-dark variants. Finally, there are condoms which are of the following variants: non-latex, spermicidal, flavored and there are also condoms for women. No matter which of these condom types you end up choosing, what’s important is for you to always keep one handy. You’ll never know when you might end up doing the deed with your significant other – and it always pays to be game and come prepared for anything!
